However, if the sealed cups inside the master cylinder age or wear out, brake fluid can leak through the seal as pressure build-ups. Signal 4: Perceptible vehicle Pullings to one side when braking
The sign indicates a serious problem with the master cylinder.
Hyundai car brake master cylinders are almost always designed with tandem dual chambers-meaning master cylinder has two separate hydraulic chambers, each controlling brake clamps on different wheels. The most common configuration is "diagonal distribution": the left front and right rear wheels share one cavity, and the right front and left rear wheels share another cavity.
The advantage of this design is that even if one chamber completely fails, the other can still provide about 50% braking power, ensuring you don't lose control completely.
The problem, however, is that when a combustion chamber seal completely fails, only one set of wiring works when you press the brake pedal. Braking force is very uneven on the left and right sides, and the vehicle will turn to one side obviously during braking.
For example, if the left front cabin breaks down, there will be brakes on the right front and left rear wheels, but no brakes on the right rear wheels-and the car will suddenly tilt forward and to the right. Normally, when the brake pedal is released, the return valve in the master cylinder opens, allowing brake fluid to flow back from the wheel cylinders to the master cylinder, separating the brake pads from the brake discs and allowing the wheels to rotate freely.
However, if the master cylinder's return function fails-the piston does not return fully, or the return port is blocked-the brake fluid doesnot return smoothly after releasing the brake, and the brake pads make slight contact with the brake discs. This is known as "brake drag."
The result of dragging is that the brake discs keeps rubbing together to generate heat, causing the disc to heat up rapidly. What to do if you spot the signs?
After seeing the signs, many motorists opted to either "test drive longer" or add brake fluid to their tanks as a temporary measure. Both of these actions are risking your life.
There are only three steps to the correct approach:
Step 1: Check brake oil immediately. If the level is lower than the the MIN line, that means a lot of brake fluid is leaking out of the system. Stop driving and call a tow truck immediately.
Step 2: Don't add brake fluid yourself. A lot of people think, "Just add a little gas, right?" While this may temporarily restore braking, the leaking master cylinder means the seal fails and the added fluid will eventually leak out completely. You never know when the brakes will snap completely until the liquid runs out. Worse still, brake fluid can cause spontaneous combustion when it comes into contact with hot components.
Step 3: Go straight to a reputable repair shop and ask for the main cylinder to be inspected and replaced. Avoid curbside shops and use unidentified aftermarket parts. Stick to top brands such as Bosch, TRW and ATE. Don't skimp on big bills, every penny you save could be your future medical bill.
